Brazilian Vice President Arrives in Abuja for Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue

Date:

ABUJA – Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and his wife, Maria Lúcia Alckmin, arrived in Abuja on Tuesday morning, signalling the official commencement of the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).

The high-level visit, which took place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, marks a significant milestone in South-South diplomatic relations and is expected to drive major policy advancements across multiple sectors.

The Brazilian delegation was warmly received by Nigeria’s Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, along with key cabinet members including Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.

Describing the visit as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Senator Hadejia highlighted the strategic value of strengthening ties with Brazil.

“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” he stated. “Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities.”

The three-day summit is expected to culminate in the signing of more than thirty Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering key areas such as defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy partnerships, and cultural exchange programmes.

Observers see the summit as a boost for Nigeria’s economic diplomacy efforts and a step toward reinforcing bilateral cooperation with one of Latin America’s largest economies.
