Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has received key figures from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in a strategic meeting at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marking a significant development in the state’s political landscape.
The delegation, led by former PDP chairman in the state, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, and APM chieftain Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, held a closed-door meeting with the governor on Monday. Other notable attendees included Dr. Ekelojumati, Olowo Fuja, and several grassroots mobilisers from various local government areas.
The visit is seen as a prelude to their formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in the state. Discussions during the meeting were described as cordial and strategic, with both sides emphasising unity and development.
Governor Abiodun welcomed the delegation and commended their decision to work toward the progress of Ogun State. He stated that the APC remains committed to inclusive governance and sustainable growth.
“This is not merely a political manoeuvre; it is a patriotic decision aimed at consolidating progress, promoting stability, and building a future of shared prosperity for the people,” the governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ogundele praised Abiodun’s leadership style and the infrastructural strides under his administration. He described the visit as a decisive step toward their integration into the APC.
Akinlade, a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-APM governorship candidate, reaffirmed the group’s resolve to support the APC’s vision and contribute to peace and development across the state.
The group is expected to make their formal declaration in the coming weeks, a move that could bolster the APC’s strength in Ogun and further establish Abiodun as a central unifying figure in the state’s political affairs.
