Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about her experience making her acting debut in the upcoming American fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone, describing it as eye-opening and humbling.
In an interview with CBS, the ‘Rush’ crooner shared how the transition from music to film challenged her in unexpected ways, especially regarding discipline and time management.
“It’s my first movie ever,” she said. “I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but with the movie, it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time. It made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.”
Starr admitted she had always wanted to act but had been shy about stepping in front of the camera without singing. “This is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats,” she added.
Children of Blood and Bone is a film adaptation of Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel of the same name. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film boasts a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Damson Idris, Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Tosin Cole, and Thuso Mbedu.
Paramount Pictures is set to release the film on January 15, 2027.
