ABUJA — Controversial Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington, has responded defiantly after being declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
The agency had earlier stated that the musician was placed on its wanted list after he failed to honour an invitation for interrogation, following a viral video in which he appeared to confess to having slept with a 15-year-old girl.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, Speed Darlington refuted the allegations, insisting he committed no crime. He also accused NAPTIP of seeking attention and warned that he would not submit himself for questioning unless paid.
“I’m not coming,” he said bluntly. “All I did was talk irresponsibly. That is not a crime. Where is your evidence? Who is your complainant?”
The singer also threatened to sue the agency for defamation of character, demanding they take down his name from their wanted list.
“NAPTIP, remove me from that list. I charge N2.5 million for appearances. You must pay for my time and round-trip tickets for me and my PA,” he added.
While daring the agency to produce proof of any wrongdoing, Speed Darlington argued that his online comments were merely for attention and not linked to any real incident.
NAPTIP is yet to issue an official response to his latest remarks.
