Former Benue State Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Mr David Olofu, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Olofu, who served under ex-Governor Samuel Ortom from 2015 to 2023, announced his decision in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa Local Government Area. The letter, which he personally signed, was made available to journalists on Wednesday in Makurdi.
Citing his constitutional right to freedom of association, Olofu stated that his resignation from the party would take effect from June 30, 2025.
“This decision has become necessary as I move to exercise my right to freedom of association enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read in part.
Olofu, who also served as Chairman of the Forum of State Commissioners for Finance in Nigeria between 2019 and 2023, added that his action was taken in the interest of his ward, local government, senatorial district, and Benue State at large.
Until recently, he was a Senior Technical Adviser to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (2023–2024), and he currently leads a new political coalition in Apa Local Government Area.
Olofu did not disclose his next political move.
