Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Reportedly Dies in Car Crash in Spain at 28

Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has reportedly died in a car crash in Spain at the age of 28, according to multiple Portuguese media outlets and the UK’s Daily Mail.

The tragic accident is said to have occurred on the A-52 highway in Zamora, located in the Castilla y León region of Spain. Jota was reportedly travelling with his younger brother, André, a 26-year-old footballer, when their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire.

Emergency services confirmed the fatal crash. A statement from local authorities read:
“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire.”

The devastating news comes just two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in a ceremony in Porto, Portugal. The couple had three children together.

Jota’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the football world, where he was admired for his skill, tenacity, and professionalism both at Liverpool and with the Portuguese national team.
