LAGOS — Traders at Alaba International Market have thrown their weight behind All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, Princess Muhibat Rufai, as their preferred candidate for the Chairmanship of Ojo Local Government Area ahead of the upcoming Lagos council elections.
During a rally held on Thursday, key stakeholders in Ojo LGA reaffirmed their commitment to voting en masse for Hon. Rufai, citing her integrity, competence, and consistent philanthropic work as reasons for their support.
The rally, which kicked off at Electronics Garage and moved through key parts of the market, saw traders chanting slogans and calling on residents to back Rufai’s bid to become the 17th Chairman of Ojo.
High Chief Dr. Camillus Nnamdi Amajuoyi Uzochukwuwara, President of the Alaba Council of Sectional Heads and the International Market Association, described the endorsement as a step toward development and accountability in governance.
“We are aligning with the ruling party to foster development and better infrastructure,” he said. “Our roads are in terrible condition, leading to accidents, damaged goods, and serious economic losses for traders. We believe Hon. Rufai is the right person to address these challenges.”
Uzochukwuwara noted that previous promises by other political parties had gone unfulfilled, adding that the community was backing Rufai based on her clear plans to rehabilitate roads, improve drainage systems, and enhance the quality of life in Ojo.
“We are not under any pressure. We support her because of her vision and commitment to the people,” he added.
The group also announced plans to mobilise fully on Saturday, July 12, to support Rufai during the chairmanship election.
In addition to traders, party members, community leaders, religious figures, and transport union representatives (NURTW) also voiced strong confidence in Rufai’s candidacy, expressing hope that her leadership would drive inclusive governance and long-term development in the area.
