Date:

LONDON — Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday.

The 32-year-old was charged following complaints made by three women, with the alleged offences occurring between 2021 and 2022. The police revealed that a formal investigation into the allegations began in February 2022.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said, “A man has been charged with multiple sexual offences following a thorough investigation by detectives. The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 and involve three separate complainants.”

Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, has not yet publicly responded to the charges. He departed the club at the end of the 2023/2024 season after four years in North London.

The case is expected to proceed through the UK legal system in the coming months. Further details, including a court date, are yet to be confirmed.
