Veteran Nollywood actress, Moji Afolayan, has opened up on her prolonged absence from the movie scene, attributing it to being blacklisted by film marketers after rejecting their sexual advances.
In a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Afolayan revealed that her decision to maintain her integrity cost her roles, fame, and income for more than ten years. Her sudden disappearance had left fans concerned about her well-being.
“Before now, marketers used to give producers money to work. But because I refused their sexual advances, they held a meeting among themselves and agreed not to call me for work,” she stated.
Afolayan, 57, added that many married actresses had to compromise their dignity to secure roles, with some even taking their husbands along while they met marketers privately.
“I didn’t sleep with any of them because I can’t trade my body for films. It’s my principle,” she said. “They denied me movie roles because I didn’t offer myself for sex. Although it affected my income and fame, I cherish my body more than every other thing.”
She explained that the rise of digital platforms has allowed her and other actors to bypass traditional marketers by distributing their films directly on YouTube.
Married to fellow actor Ojopagogo, Afolayan said she is now enjoying the reward of standing by her values, despite the career setbacks it brought.
