Super Eagles Players Battle for CHAN 2025 Spots as Camp Intensifies in Ikenne

Date:

Super Eagles B team players have expressed strong determination to secure spots in the final squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as preparations continue in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Twenty-eight players are currently in camp, training under Head Coach Eric Chelle, who had earlier released a 35-man provisional list on July 4. The CHAN tournament, reserved for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues, will take place in August across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Promise Efoghe, the Super Eagles media officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the players are focused and eager to impress, with a mix of excitement and pressure in the camp.

Nduka Junior of Remo Stars said the training sessions have been intense and competitive.

“The trainings so far have been a good test for the players in camp. The boys are ready and prepared for the task ahead. Everyone is definitely under pressure, but the coach wants the best out of all the players,” he said.

Aniekeme Okon of Rivers United said players are in high spirits and committed to showcasing their technical and tactical abilities.

“I see this as an opportunity, and from the experience and what I have seen so far, it’s been very good. It’s a bit of pressure with 28 players in camp and high expectations, but everyone is giving their best to make the final list. For now, we’ll keep pushing,” he said.

Leonard Ngenge of Ikorodu City expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be in camp.

“The coach has said that for me, obviously being here is because I deserve it. On a personal note, it’s an amazing step, and I’m grateful to God for the opportunity. We are all under pressure, but I remain confident and am doing the best I can to put myself on the coach’s radar and make the final list,” he said.

Nigeria, who were CHAN runners-up in 2018, are placed in Group D of the 19-nation competition alongside title holders Senegal, Sudan, and Congo.

The Super Eagles will face Senegal and Sudan at the Amman Stadium on Zanzibar Island. Their final group game against Congo is scheduled for the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
