Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has come to the defence of her fellow Big Brother Naija alum, Tacha, amid online criticism following the latter’s recent cosmetic surgery.
Tacha had earlier taken to Instagram to reveal her new look after undergoing breast enhancement surgery. The post sparked backlash from some Nigerians who accused her of altering her body unnecessarily.
But Uriel, in a strongly-worded social media post, accused Nigerians of hypocrisy and “selective memory,” pointing out that many of those now criticising Tacha were the same people who once mocked her natural body.
“If the world is trying to create a new method for amnesia, forget surgery, forget medications. Just bring 10 Nigerians, especially from Lagos, and let them breathe on the person that needs memory loss… that’s it — instant amnesia, no side effects,” Uriel said.
She continued, “You people are just the true originators of selective memory. One minute you are dragging someone through the mud, next minute you’re acting brand new, like you weren’t the ones that started it.”
Uriel urged critics to stay out of other people’s choices and journeys, adding, “Why can’t you people just twist your lips, put them inside your pocket, and face front?”
She highlighted the contrast in public reaction between 2018, when Tacha faced constant body shaming, and now, when the same audience is quick to criticise her for changing her appearance.
“Tacha, the same woman you shamed back in 2018, mocked her body, ridiculed her every move. Now she is glowing up, looking like a whole meal, and suddenly, everyone has moral opinions?” Uriel concluded.
Tacha has yet to respond to the criticism directly but continues to share confident images and videos of her post-surgery look.
