Popular Nigerian singer, Davido, has fueled speculation about his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), through lyrics in his newly released single titled “From Umbrella to Broom.”
Rumours of Adeleke’s planned switch to the APC ahead of the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election gained traction last month following a private visit by the governor and Davido to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.
In the track, Davido appears to all but confirm the move, using political metaphors to describe the shift from the PDP’s umbrella symbol to the APC’s broom. He also suggests the change is aimed at advancing the state’s development.
Davido sings:
“New broom go sweep better. Ẹtan abẹla si ìjọba wa. From umbrella to the broom. Adegbe adafa, alagbada alefa.”
He continues:
“Eyan marun, mefa, kilode ta n suffer. New broom go sweep better. Them tori us propaganda from January to December we no gbadun NEPA. So all of our youths wan go America.”
The lyrics imply dissatisfaction with the current state of governance and a call for transformation, which he links to the APC.
While there has been no official statement from Governor Adeleke or the PDP, Davido’s song has intensified public debate about the governor’s political future.
