As tributes pour in from Nigerian leaders over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, several celebrities have also expressed their views—some with praise, others with pointed criticism.
DAILY POST earlier reported that Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital after a prolonged illness. The Federal Government has since declared seven days of national mourning to honour the late leader.
However, the official period of mourning has triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians, including prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
Rapper Eedris Abdulkareem suggested that the backlash following Buhari’s death was a direct result of his leadership style while alive. “Your legacies after life are consequences of your deeds. Innalilahi wa innalilahi rajuhun,” he wrote on Instagram.
Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho released a video on Facebook recalling a personal encounter with the former president’s administration. “The man that sent DSS to come and kill me in the middle of the night on July 4th, 2021, has died today,” he said.
On a more reflective note, reality TV star Tacha acknowledged Buhari’s historical significance, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “No matter your views, Muhammadu Buhari was a major part of Nigeria’s story. RIP.”
Veteran actress Kate Henshaw kept her message brief, posting, “Nothing dey this life,” suggesting the fleeting nature of life and power.
Another former Big Brother Naija housemate, Pere Egbi, addressed the emotional toll Buhari’s presidency left behind. “May his soul rest in peace until resurrection morning. President Tinubu, as you reflect on your predecessor’s legacy, I appeal to your conscience: Nigeria is hurting. Millions are broken,” he said, urging the current president to learn from the past.
Controversial singer Portable shared a video on Instagram calling for good deeds while alive. “Make sure you do good. It’s Buhari that offends us, not Tinubu. Buhari died in London. May God rest his soul,” he said.
On a more reverent note, legendary fuji musician KWAM 1 (King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal) paid tribute to the late leader with a song posted on Instagram, offering a prayerful send-off: “Sleep well.”
