Acclaimed American musician and actor David Kaff has passed away at the age of 79.
Kaff, best known for his role as keyboardist Viv Savage in the cult classic 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, according to a statement by his bandmates from ‘Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom.’
Announcing his death in a heartfelt Facebook post, the band wrote: “Our brother David Kaffinetti peacefully passed away in his sleep yesterday. We are devastated by this event. RIP dear brother.”
David Kaffinetti, who performed under the name David Kaff, rose to fame with This Is Spinal Tap, a satirical film that parodied rock documentaries and gained a devoted fanbase. His portrayal of Viv Savage, the laid-back keyboardist with the iconic catchphrase “Have a good time all the time,” became a fan favorite.
Following his appearance in the film, Kaff continued to perform with Spinal Tap at special events and made a notable guest appearance on Saturday Night Live. He later parted ways with the group and went on to join other bands, maintaining a steady presence in the music scene.
