The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as an expected act of desperation and evidence of the PDP’s growing instability.
In a statement on Wednesday, APC spokesperson in Lagos, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said Atiku’s move was unsurprising, citing his history of political migration driven by personal ambition rather than ideological conviction.
“Atiku has again proven that political instability follows him wherever he goes. Nigerians deserve better than recycled politics and self-serving theatrics,” the statement read.
The APC downplayed the significance of the defection, stating it would neither boost the electoral chances of the ADC nor weaken the APC’s dominance, especially in Lagos and other parts of the country.
“We further note that the defection will neither change the electoral fortunes of the ADC nor pose any serious threat to the dominance of the APC, especially in Lagos State and across the federation,” the party said.
According to the APC, the development is another opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the character and consistency of those seeking to lead, and to reject opportunistic politics.
“Whether Atiku is in PDP, ADC, or any other alphabet party, the people of Lagos and indeed Nigeria are wiser. The APC remains the only party with a proven track record of delivering transformative governance, economic growth, and infrastructural development.”
The party urged its members to remain united and focused ahead of the coming elections, adding that its strength lies in its performance and grassroots support.
“This is a time to consolidate our unity and deepen mobilisation at the grassroots. The APC is ready to lead and ready to win,” Oladejo added.
