Burkina Faso, South Africa Win First Golds at African U18/U20 Championships

Burkina Faso clinched the first gold medal of the 3rd Combined CAA African U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with Zango Salisa emerging victorious in the U18 women’s triple jump.

Salisa leapt 12.79m to secure the top spot ahead of Morocco’s Masat Kaota, who claimed silver with 12.39m. Tunisia’s Finel Chidi earned the bronze medal with a jump of 12.26m.

South Africa also registered their first gold of the championships on Wednesday. Natro Ler won the U18 high jump event with a mark of 2.00m, maintaining the country’s strong tradition in field events.

Nigerians Ikeki Daniel and Oddo Melvin finished second and third respectively, giving the host nation its first set of medals in the tournament.
