Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has revealed he once came close to featuring on Big Brother Africa but was dropped at the last minute—a decision he now sees as a turning point in his career.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, Egbuson shared that the rejection led him to land a role in MTV Shuga Naija, the breakout series that launched his acting career.
“I was supposed to be on Big Brother Africa some years ago,” he said. “We were about five, and after all the processes, they told us to pack our bags and wait for a call. I even hired someone to manage my social media. But I wasn’t picked.”
That same year, he was cast in MTV Shuga, which he credits for putting him on the map. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “Some of those things I might have gotten would have completely derailed me from where I am today. And I believe that where I am today is where I’m ordained by God to be.”
Egbuson noted that while it’s natural to feel disappointed by missed opportunities, they can sometimes be blessings in disguise. “You just have to count it as a blessing, dust your feet, and keep on moving. That’s one hard lesson I’ve learnt,” he added.
