Osogbo — In a surprising political turn, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has officially endorsed the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in 2026.
The endorsement was part of a communiqué issued at the end of a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo. The document, made available to journalists on Tuesday, was signed by Governor Adeleke, former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, PDP State Chairman Sunday Bisi, Senator Lere Oyewumi, and 24 other party leaders.
The communique revealed that the decision followed recent political tensions sparked by speculations of Governor Adeleke’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the PDP, the governor ultimately chose to remain in the party after stiff opposition from some APC members.
It also condemned the attacks on Adeleke by certain APC figures on national media platforms, despite the PDP’s internal resistance to the defection talks.
“The PDP in Osun State recognizes the fact that Osun State is the ancestral home of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which makes the President the son of Osun State. Therefore, the PDP in Osun State hereby adopts and endorses President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election,” the communiqué stated.
It reaffirmed Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid on the PDP platform for the 2026 governorship race, emphasizing unity within the party.
The document further directed party leadership to circulate the resolutions across all party structures in the state, while calling on Governor Adeleke to focus on governance and continue implementing his administration’s Five-Point Agenda.
The development is seen as a significant political alignment in Osun State and may have broader implications for inter-party dynamics ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections.
