Arsenal Close In on £64m Deal for Viktor Gyokeres

Date:

Arsenal are on the verge of sealing a £64 million deal to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, with a verbal agreement already in place.

According to The Athletic, the transfer includes a base fee of £54.8 million and an additional £8.6 million in performance-based add-ons. Although there were earlier concerns about the bonus structure, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed both clubs have now reached a consensus.

The Swedish striker played a key role in pushing the move forward, reportedly missing Sporting’s pre-season and threatening to go on strike — actions that drew a stern response from club president Frederico Varandas.

Despite the drama, the 27-year-old is expected to sign a long-term contract with Arsenal until 2030. His agent is also said to have waived his commission to help push the deal over the line.

Gyokeres scored an astonishing 54 goals in 52 appearances last season and had attracted interest from Manchester United, but he prioritized a move to the Emirates.

Once finalised, the deal will see Gyokeres join Mikel Arteta’s squad as the Gunners look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new campaign.
