Nigerian rapper CDQ has disclosed that he once turned down a recording deal from Afrobeats superstar Davido.
According to the rapper, the offer came after the success of his breakout single ‘Indomie’. Davido had reached out, expressing interest in signing him to his label, DMW, with the promise of turning him into Africa’s biggest rapper.
CDQ made the revelation during an interview with the Echo Room. He said, “Davido reached out to me through Twitter back then that he wanted to sign me. He told me he just made a lot of money from his African tour and wanted to invest it in me and make me the biggest rapper in Africa.”
However, CDQ insisted that his producer, Masterkraft, be part of any deal. During their meeting, Masterkraft proposed a partnership instead of a traditional record deal. Davido reportedly declined the offer, and the deal ultimately fell through.
Despite missing out on the deal, CDQ has remained one of Nigeria’s notable rap acts, while Davido’s DMW has gone on to nurture several Afrobeats stars.
