Ikem, Enugu State — Traditional rulers in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area have commended Governor Peter Mbah and the Council Chairman, Barrister Obiora Obeagu, for their sustained efforts to improve security and infrastructure across the LGA.
Led by the Chairman of the Isi-Uzo Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Engr. Okey Ogbodo, the royal fathers paid a solidarity visit to the council headquarters in Ikem, where they praised the duo’s commitment to restoring peace, especially in the troubled farm settlements.
They also condemned the recent attack in parts of Eha-Amufu, which resulted in the deaths of several residents, describing the incident as unfortunate and unexpected given the level of security investment by the state government and the local authority.
“We remember the crisis here about three years ago in 2022. We used to have IDP camps in Ikem and Isi-Uzo. But now, we have seen the great efforts you are making to secure our communities. We are here to show support and gratitude,” said Igwe Ogbodo.
The royal fathers highlighted key interventions by Governor Mbah, including the deployment of joint security teams, ongoing farm estate and produce city projects, and strategic road constructions aimed at opening up remote settlements for faster response and development.
They also applauded Barr. Obeagu’s hands-on leadership, noting that he has consistently led security teams in the field while simultaneously executing development projects.
“You not only intervene but you’re always in the frontline,” said Igwe Pius Nnamani. “You hardly sleep, yet you’re developing our LGA. We appreciate you and the governor. May God continue to strengthen you.”
In his response, Council Chairman Obeagu expressed deep appreciation for the visit, stating that it was a morale booster in the face of persistent security challenges. He credited Governor Mbah for his decisive and well-funded security actions in Isi-Uzo.
Obeagu cited several challenges affecting security, including recent conflicts, sabotage by insiders, poor road access, and weak telecommunications. However, he reassured the royal fathers that these issues are being addressed as priorities by the state government.
“The 21.7km Agu-Mgbuji-Ogbete road has been completed since last year. Work is ongoing on the Ikpakpara-Aguamede road and a new route connecting Ikem-Nkwo. The governor has also approved the 11.5km Aguamede road and is working on improving telecoms in the area,” he stated.
Obeagu affirmed the administration’s commitment to pursuing criminals and ensuring that peace is fully restored across all Isi-Uzo farm settlements.
“He [Governor Mbah] has vowed to go after every identified criminal in Isi-Uzo farm settlements and bring them all to justice,” he concluded.
