Nigerian singer Ayra Starr recently spoke with Billboard, offering playful insights into some of her most iconic photos — including a viral bathroom selfie taken at the 2025 Met Gala.
In the snapshot, she posed alongside American pop star Coco Jones and R&B artist Tems. With a laugh, Ayra jokingly declared herself the pioneer of bathroom selfies at the prestigious fashion event.
“First African to take a bathroom selfie at the MET Gala, period!” she said, despite fellow Nigerian star Tems also appearing in the photo.
Ayra Starr made her Met Gala debut at the 2025 edition of the event, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She was part of a strong African presence at the gala, joining stars like Burna Boy, Tyla, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and designer Swanky Jerry.
