EFCC Arraigns Singer Hamisu Breaker, TikTok Star G Fresh for Naira Abuse in Kano

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned popular Kannywood singer Hamisu Breaker and TikTok personality Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as G Fresh, before the Federal High Court in Kano for alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency.

The case was heard by Justice Sale Musa Shuaibu. Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges after they were read in court.

Justice Shuaibu sentenced them to five months imprisonment each, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.

Hamisu Breaker was convicted for spraying ₦200 notes totalling about ₦30,000 during a party held in Hadejia, Jigawa State. G Fresh, on the other hand, was found guilty of spraying bundles of ₦1,000 notes at the opening ceremony of a shop in the Tarauni area of Kano.

The EFCC has been intensifying its clampdown on Naira abuse, as part of efforts to enforce the provisions of the Central Bank Act which prohibits mishandling of the national currency.
