Tacha Slams Nigerian Youths for Lack of National Involvement

Date:

Reality TV star Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has criticised Nigerian youths for what she described as their apathy towards national issues and reluctance to make sacrifices for the country’s progress.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the former Big Brother Naija housemate expressed disappointment in the current generation, stating that young Nigerians have become “timid” and overly focused on personal comfort, social media content, and relocating abroad, rather than confronting the country’s challenges head-on.

“Listen, my generation of Nigerians are the dumbest and most cowardly,” Tacha tweeted. “Funny how we blame the ones before us for ruining Nigeria. Ex-President Buhari in his 20s was part of a coup fighting for what he believed in.”

She contrasted today’s 20-year-olds—whom she described as primarily interested in “japa” (emigrating)—with earlier generations who, she noted, were unafraid to engage in national power struggles and take bold stances for the country’s future.

“Believe me when I say, we’ve not just failed the next generation, we’ve buried it,” she added. “Back in the day, young Nigerians were fearless about taking a stance in national affairs.”

Tacha clarified that her comments were not directed at specific individuals but rather intended to highlight a broader issue affecting Nigerian youth.

“Y’all ask ‘what have you done?’ I used my voice. I speak, I show up, I refuse to be quiet,” she said. “This tweet is not about me or anyone. It’s about a whole generation that is too afraid to prioritise the nation’s interest over their own comfort.”

Her comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising her courage to speak out while others questioned the tone and generalisation of her remarks.
