ZAMFARA — The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He died on Friday morning in Abuja, marking the end of a decade-long reign over the Gusau Emirate.

His death has plunged the emirate and the entire Zamfara State into mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the country. Governor Dauda Lawal led the tributes, describing the monarch’s passing as a personal and collective loss.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris Bala, Governor Lawal praised the late Emir as a dedicated and visionary leader who contributed immensely to the development of Zamfara.

“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello,” the governor said. “He led with unwavering commitment, deep faith, and a genuine desire to uplift his people.”

Dr. Ibrahim Bello became the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, and served the emirate for 10 years. Before his ascension to the throne, he had a long and accomplished career in public service, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara.

Governor Lawal described him as a trusted confidant and father figure whose wisdom and guidance would be sorely missed.

“The late Emir was not just a traditional ruler; he was a symbol of unity and progress whose leadership brought stability and development to the Gusau Emirate,” Lawal added.

The Gusau Emirate Council is expected to announce funeral arrangements soon. The late Emir is remembered as a unifying figure whose legacy will endure in the hearts of his people and the annals of Zamfara’s traditional leadership.
