ASUU Yobe Varsity Chapter Insists Ongoing Strike Not Yet Called Off

Date:

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University (YSU) chapter, has clarified that its ongoing strike action, which commenced on July 11, remains in effect.

Chairman of the union, Dr. Ahmed Karage, made this known on Monday in Damaturu through an official statement. He acknowledged that while the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage consequential adjustment was effected in July, several other critical demands remain unresolved by the Yobe State Government.

Dr. Karage highlighted the pending issues, which include the implementation of academic staff promotions approved by the university council, as well as the payment of promotion arrears covering the period from 2018 to 2025.

Other demands include the payment of arrears arising from the minimum wage consequential adjustment from 2019 to 2024, the 35–25 percent salary award for professors and other academic ranks from 2023 to 2025, and the settlement of N70,000 minimum wage arrears from January 2024 to June 2025.

The union appealed for public understanding and assured that the strike would be suspended once a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between the union and the state government.
