Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has denied widespread rumours suggesting she has retired from international football.
Speaking to reporters in Morocco after Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory over the host nation in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, the six-time African Player of the Year dismissed the speculation as baseless.
“I don’t know where that came from but agenda must agend. I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on,” Oshoala said.
The 30-year-old, who featured in a supporting role during the tournament, was named in Nigeria’s final 23-woman squad and remained a key presence in the team’s title run.
Oshoala, who began her international career in 2013, rose to global prominence after a standout performance at the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup and a key role in Nigeria’s African Women’s Championship triumph that same year.
She remains the only African to score in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups and now holds four WAFCON titles — 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024 — further solidifying her legendary status in Nigerian football.
