Amid widespread economic hardship, insecurity, and growing public dissatisfaction with federal leadership, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, founding Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, has praised PDP governors for providing responsive governance across their states.
In a statement released in Abuja, Onaiwu said PDP-led states are stepping up where national leadership appears lacking, implementing policies that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
“They’re not just delivering projects, they’re restoring dignity,” he said. “While some leaders are playing politics, these governors are solving problems.”
He cited infrastructure upgrades in Enugu, improved healthcare services in Zamfara, strengthened school systems in Taraba, and youth innovation initiatives in Osun as examples of impactful governance.
Onaiwu noted that the difference between what is happening at the federal level and in PDP-led states is becoming more evident, with the latter focused on delivering real value rather than political rhetoric.
In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde was commended for promoting budget transparency and rural development. In Bauchi, improved healthcare delivery has helped build public trust, while in Bayelsa, strides in security and women’s empowerment are changing perceptions of governance.
“The story of Nigeria doesn’t have to be one of constant despair,” a policy analyst quoted in the statement said. “What we’re seeing in some PDP states suggests that leadership, when grounded in people’s needs, still works.”
Onaiwu urged the Federal Government to support progressive governance efforts regardless of party lines, stressing that partisan politics should not be allowed to stifle visible progress.
“This is not the time to play politics with performance. The real opposition to progress is not another party—it’s bad governance,” he added.
As the country moves toward potential midterm political shifts, Onaiwu said the performance of PDP governors may offer a credible path for rebuilding public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.
“Leadership that listens and delivers is still possible,” he stated.
