Nigeria’s Super Falcons have solidified their dominance in African women’s football by producing the highest number of players in the CAF Team of the Tournament, following their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
In the official Best XI released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the tournament’s conclusion in Rabat, four Nigerian stars earned selection—more than any other country.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was named the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament, led Nigeria’s representation. Her shot-stopping heroics were key to the team’s successful run, particularly in the tense knockout stages.
Right-back Michelle Alozie was also included for her high energy, pressing ability, and defensive discipline. The Houston Dash player stood out with consistent performances throughout the competition.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who was voted Player of the Tournament, earned her place on the right wing. She played a leading role in driving Nigeria’s attack and inspired the team on and off the pitch.
Esther Okoronkwo completed Nigeria’s quartet in the team of the tournament. The winger was crucial in the dramatic 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco in the final, contributing a goal and two assists. She finished the tournament with two goals and six assists—more than any other player.
The Best XI, set in a 4-3-3 formation, also features three Moroccan players and two each from Ghana and South Africa, WAFCON 2024’s other semi-finalists. Ghana defeated South Africa to claim the bronze medal.
South Africa’s Karabo Dhlamini was named at left-back, while Ghana’s Portia Boakye and South Africa’s Bambanani Mbane formed the centre-back duo.
In midfield, Morocco’s top scorer Ghizlane Chebbak was joined by Ghana’s Grace Asantewaa and South Africa’s Refiloe Jane. Morocco’s Ibtissam Jraïdi led the frontline.
