Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has delivered a heartfelt message to mothers, urging them to break away from negative generational cycles and create a nurturing environment for their children.
Speaking at her daughter Priscilla’s baby shower over the weekend in Canada, the actress emphasised the importance of intentional parenting, faith, and the power of positive affirmations.
Addressing a gathering of friends and family, Iyabo called on mothers to release past struggles and avoid passing down emotional burdens to the next generation.
“Sometimes you need to sacrifice so much for your children,” she said. “You have to think—for me to be here today, to have this baby, I made that decision. And whatever comes out of it, good or bad, it is not a burden for my children to carry. I will never deprive my children of their blessings.”
Iyabo warned against allowing ancestral patterns, often described as generational curses, to define a child’s future. She stressed that to truly break such cycles, mothers must first stop perpetuating them.
“When mothers carry the pain and struggle and extend it to their children, they deprive them of certain things,” she said. “There is something called ancestral curses—you cannot break it if you are leading it. For you to break it, you must stop it and you must end it.”
The actress, a mother of two, shared her reflections as part of a broader appeal for mothers to prioritise healing and growth to ensure their children are not emotionally shackled by their past.
