Troops Neutralise Dozens of Boko Haram Fighters in Fresh Borno Operations

Date:

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), led by Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, have again recorded major successes in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents across parts of Borno State.

In a series of operations spanning the Konduga, Bama, and Gwoza Local Government Areas, the troops killed scores of terrorists and recovered weapons and logistics used by the fighters. The offensive, backed by the Air Component of OPHK, also disrupted attempts by the insurgents to plant explosives on a key bridge linking Marte and Dikwa LGAs.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters North East OPHK, the operations involved ambushes and aggressive fighting patrols that led to the neutralisation of at least nine terrorists. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles and PKT machine guns.

Kovangiya disclosed that troops intercepted two heavy Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and associated equipment intended to sabotage the strategic Marte–Dikwa route.

“These sustained operations highlight OPHK’s determination to deny the insurgents freedom of action,” the statement read.

This latest success follows last week’s operation where a top Boko Haram commander, Ibn Khalid, and 17 of his fighters were killed in remote parts of Bitta, Gwoza LGA.

Captain Kovangiya called on residents of the North East to support ongoing military efforts by reporting suspicious movements or activities linked to Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists.
