Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has lauded Super Falcons star, Miracle Usani, for her outstanding performance at the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing her as a “shining ambassador” of the state.
Usani, a native of Biko Biko in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, was part of the victorious Nigerian squad that secured the country’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title. Her contribution to the team’s success drew praise from across the country, with her home state celebrating her as a symbol of hope and pride.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, Governor Otu hailed Usani’s journey as that of a “daughter of destiny” whose performance on the continental stage has lit up Cross River with joy.
“Miracle has etched Cross River’s name on the golden map of African football,” the governor said. “Her courage, elegance, and excellence on the pitch reflect the pride, passion, and purpose we hold dear as a people.”
Otu added that Usani’s success has not only brought honour to Nigeria but has also spotlighted her local community in Ugep. He praised her for rekindling hope and inspiring a new generation of young talents in the state.
“Your dazzling performance has stirred the hearts of millions and rekindled the flame of pride and excellence in every Cross Riverian,” he said. “You are living proof that greatness can bloom from our soil and shine upon the world.”
The governor’s commendation follows nationwide celebrations of the Super Falcons’ WAFCON victory, which solidifies Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the African continent.
