Man United See Off Bournemouth 4–1 in Rainy Chicago Clash

Date:

Manchester United continued their strong pre-season form with a commanding 4–1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League Summer Series tournament on Wednesday in Chicago.

Goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and teenager Ethan Williams ensured a second straight win for new manager Ruben Amorim’s side at a soaked and blustery Soldier Field.

Hojlund opened the scoring in the eighth minute, rising to meet a pinpoint cross from Dorgu and heading home with precision past Bournemouth’s Djordje Petrovic. Dorgu then turned scorer, latching on to a quick free-kick from Mason Mount and slotting a composed finish under the goalkeeper in the 25th minute.

Diallo added a third early in the second half before Amorim rang the changes, bringing on nine substitutes. Among them was Ethan Williams, who made an instant impact by curling in United’s fourth just two minutes after coming on.

The only blemish came late, with Matthijs de Ligt turning the ball into his own net in the 88th minute.

In another friendly in Chicago, West Ham came from behind to defeat Everton 2–1. Idrissa Gueye gave Everton an early lead, but Lucas Paqueta levelled before the break and Niclas Fullkrug netted the winner in the 64th minute.

The results leave Everton winless in the tournament after a 3–0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend. Manager David Moyes admitted his side is still far from ready for the new season, citing lack of squad depth and preparation.

The Summer Series wraps up Sunday in Atlanta, where United take on Everton and West Ham face Bournemouth.
