A large number of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo State defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday evening.
Leading the defection was House of Representatives member, Festus Akingbaso, who had earlier declared his switch to the ruling APC.
The defectors were received at a rally in Idanre town by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Chief Olayide Adelami.
The governor praised Akingbaso’s move, describing it as a reflection of the APC’s growing strength in the state. He also commended the lawmaker’s performance at the National Assembly and expressed confidence that his defection would further consolidate the APC’s presence in the constituency.
“We are happy to receive him and his supporters. Festus Akingbaso has witnessed all that the APC is doing both in Ondo and at the federal level,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
APC state chairman, Ade Adetimehin, handed the party’s flag to Akingbaso and predicted full electoral support from the constituency going forward.
“With Akingbaso joining us, Idanre and Ifedore will henceforth record 100 per cent votes for the APC,” Adetimehin said.
Akingbaso, on his part, praised the governor for his leadership and said his decision to join the APC was to align with efforts to bring governance closer to the people.
“I’ve seen the strides of President Tinubu and want to work with the governor to ensure the success of the party,” he said.
