The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a stern reminder to Nigerian students studying in America to strictly comply with the terms of their student visas or risk losing the privilege to study in the country.
The embassy cautioned that many visa revocations occur when students abandon their studies, stop attending classes, or change academic programmes without notifying their institutions. Such actions, it warned, could also affect eligibility for future US visa applications.
“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas. Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues,” the mission stated on its official X page.
It also reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for violations of US laws, warning that offenders face visa refusal, revocation, deportation, and possible ineligibility for future applications. The advisory comes as thousands of Nigerians prepare to travel for the September academic session.
“If you are arrested, your US visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future US visas. The United States has zero tolerance for non-citizens who violate US laws,” the statement read.
The campaign, shared with the hashtags #VisaWiseTravelSmart and #USVisa, aims to educate students on maintaining their legal status throughout their stay.
