Barcelona will face Valencia in La Liga on Sunday at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, with the iconic Spotify Camp Nou still not licensed to reopen during its ongoing rebuild.
The Spanish champions had hoped to return to their historic ground, even at reduced capacity, but have yet to secure the required permits.
“The club is working intensively to obtain the necessary administrative permits to open Spotify Camp Nou in the coming weeks,” Barcelona said in a statement, thanking fans for their patience during “such a complex and exciting process.”
The Johan Cruyff Stadium, usually home to Barcelona’s women’s team, accommodates about 6,000 spectators—far fewer than Camp Nou’s eventual capacity.
Camp Nou has been closed since the end of the 2022/23 season for reconstruction, with plans to partially reopen in November 2024. However, repeated delays and licensing hurdles have pushed back the timeline.
Barcelona had been playing at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill until the end of last season, but a Post Malone concert there on Friday ruled it out as a venue for this weekend’s clash.
The Camp Nou revamp, expected to cost around €1.5 billion, is scheduled for completion in 2026.
