Chilean footballer Arturo Vidal has been cleared of sexual assault allegations, prosecutors confirmed on Friday, following a complaint filed by a woman over an incident at a Santiago nightclub last November.
The 37-year-old midfielder, currently playing for Colo Colo, had been accused alongside other teammates after attending a birthday celebration on November 4. However, Chilean prosecutor Felipe Cembrano stated that the case against Vidal has been dismissed due to lack of evidence.
“We were able to reconstitute the events of that day and, ultimately, there is no evidence to support charges,” Cembrano said in a video released to the media.
While Vidal has been exonerated, the investigation reportedly continues into other unnamed players from the club.
Vidal, a former star for Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Inter Milan, rejoined Colo Colo last year — the club where he launched his professional career at age 17. He remains one of Chile’s most decorated players, having helped the national team secure their historic 2015 Copa America title.
