Labour Party Faction Threatens to Expel Peter Obi, Governor Otti, Others Over Internal Crisis

Date:

ABUJA — A faction of the Labour Party (LP) has threatened to expel the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, over alleged anti-party activities.

Abayomi Arabambi, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the LP, made the revelation during an interview on Television Continental (TVC), where he accused the duo and other suspended members of creating instability within the party.

“These characters troubling our party are a few selfish Nigerians that are after their own personal aggrandisement. We will not allow them to ruin our party,” Arabambi said, stressing that the party will soon convene a national convention to restore internal order.

He added, “There can be only one solution which a national convention will soon unleash. It is to expel Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti and others. They are currently under suspension. I assure you that they will be expelled soon.”

Arabambi also claimed the Supreme Court never removed Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman, disputing assertions by opposing factions.

The threat follows the Labour Party’s indefinite suspension of Governor Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and four others earlier in the week. In a statement released by the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, those suspended include Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah, and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.

Ibrahim declared that the suspended individuals are no longer authorized to represent or act on behalf of the Labour Party, citing anti-party conduct as the reason for their removal.

The party’s internal conflict continues to deepen, raising concerns over unity and stability ahead of future political engagements.
