KANO — Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has pledged N15 billion over five years to transform the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, into a world-class institution.
Speaking at the university’s 5th combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, Dangote, who also serves as Chancellor of ADUSTECH, said the funds would be used to execute a five-year development plan in partnership with the university’s Governing Council.
The plan includes the construction of new student hostels and classrooms, a world-class computer laboratory with internet access, a mini solar power plant, a modern Senate building, and the provision of post-NYSC and employment opportunities for top engineering graduates.
“We will commit N15 billion to ensure ADUSTECH becomes one of the top three universities in Nigeria,” Dangote stated. He emphasized that all projects would follow a structured management system to ensure timely and budget-conscious delivery.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai revealed that he inherited a N3 billion liability upon assuming office, with Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration already settling over N2 billion of the debt. Yakasai also noted that over 30 of the university’s 40 programmes now have full accreditation.
Governor Yusuf, who also attended the event, announced the state’s approval for new road and drainage networks within the university and said more development projects are in the pipeline.
