APC Ran a ‘Political MMM’ with LG Primaries, Says Youth Party Candidate Adio

Date:

Lagos — Ayodele Adio, the Youth Party’s chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa Local Government Area, has likened the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government primaries in Lagos State to a “political MMM,” accusing the ruling party of dashing the hopes of aspirants who paid millions to contest but were denied a fair process.

Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, Adio referenced the infamous MMM Ponzi scheme that collapsed in 2016, saying the APC acted in a similarly deceptive manner during its recent primaries.

He said over 500 people reportedly purchased chairmanship forms priced at N5.5 million each, with many more paying for councillorship forms, under the promise of open primaries. However, just days before the primaries, the party shifted to a consensus arrangement and declared there would be no refunds.

“That sounds to me like political MMM,” Adio said. “If the plan from the start was to adopt candidates through consensus, then why sell forms at all? Why let people waste scarce resources just to be sidelined? It does a lot of disservice to our electoral process.”

He accused the APC of breeding impunity and undermining internal democracy, saying such actions contribute to persistent internal party crises and erode trust in the political system.

The comments come amid growing backlash over the APC’s primary processes in Lagos, with many aggrieved aspirants and civil society groups calling for transparency, reforms, and accountability within the party structure.
