Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate. The endorsement, backed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was announced at the APC National Summit held Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The declaration came after similar endorsements from the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and members of both chambers of the National Assembly. Ganduje used the occasion to caution against internal divisions, urging members to support the implementation of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“The party cannot go into the 2027 poll divided, unprepared, or reactive,” Ganduje said. “Our goal must not only be to win elections, but to lead with purpose, to earn the trust of Nigerians continuously, and to inspire belief in governance again.”
He praised Tinubu’s leadership and the developmental strides recorded so far, noting that the APC has evolved from an electoral force to a governing institution under the current administration. Ganduje highlighted key achievements, including legislative dominance and the party’s control in 22 states and most local government areas.
Ganduje also announced progress under his leadership, including the launch of the Progressive Institute for ideological training and policy research, as well as efforts to implement a digital membership database for transparency and inclusivity.
Taking a swipe at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he described it as a party in decline, weakened by leadership crises and ideological disarray. Ganduje reaffirmed that the APC’s continued growth is rooted in its governance record and alignment with Nigerians’ aspirations.
