Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has steered Delta State through significant development strides, addressing longstanding challenges with focused policies and strategic investments.
Despite inheriting issues like a housing deficit, inadequate transport networks, and the need for grassroots empowerment, his administration has delivered measurable progress. A pilot housing scheme launched across Ozoro, Kwale, and Owa-Oyibu includes 50 affordable, modern residential units, underscoring a commitment to inclusive urban development. Additionally, the construction of duplexes within the Commissioner Quarters aims to enhance governance efficiency.
The judiciary has seen increased autonomy and modernization, with new Judges’ Quarters, a state-of-the-art six-floor High Court Complex featuring digital amenities, and the provision of 20 Toyota Prado SUVs for judicial officers, strengthening the rule of law in Delta State.
Infrastructure projects remain a priority, with extensive road rehabilitation and expansion improving connectivity in Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, and beyond. The administration is also pioneering green transport initiatives, introducing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses and establishing CNG conversion centers in partnership with NIPCO Gas and Electra Motors, promoting environmental sustainability and job creation.
Efforts to modernize public transport include upgrading riverine jetties with safety equipment and new passenger boats, while reforms in digital vehicle registration, driver licensing, and traffic management have enhanced sector efficiency. The government is advancing the implementation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to improve traffic enforcement and public safety.
Social investment programs complement these infrastructural gains. The M.O.R.E. Grants Scheme, launched in May 2024, has empowered over 5,400 vulnerable entrepreneurs, fostering economic inclusion. The Delta COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) program has supported over 280,000 beneficiaries with enterprise development and poverty alleviation initiatives, helping mitigate pandemic impacts.
Governor Oborevwori’s administration has achieved significant progress across infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and public service reform, all aligned with the MORE Agenda (Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security). His leadership exemplifies a people-centered governance model focused on sustainable development and inclusive growth.
As Delta State advances, Governor Oborevwori’s vision and policies set a strong foundation for continued prosperity and shared progress for all Deltans.
