Mohamed Salah has been named Premier League Player of the Season for the second time after playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s push to their record-equalling 20th English league title.
The 32-year-old Egyptian forward topped the scoring charts with 28 league goals—five more than any other player—and contributed 18 assists this season. Heading into Liverpool’s final league game against Crystal Palace, Salah is just two assists shy of the single-season record held jointly by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
The award is decided by a combination of public votes and input from a panel of football experts. Salah previously won the accolade in the 2017-18 campaign, breaking a four-year run of Manchester City players winning the prize.
Notably, Salah outpolled his Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk, who last won the award for a non-Manchester City player in the 2018-19 season. Other contenders included Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood.
Earlier this month, Salah also secured the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award with nearly 90% of the votes—the largest winning margin this century.
