Governor Alia Denies Plans to Leave APC Amid Kwankwasiyya Momentum in Kogi

Date:

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling the claims “fake news” and the product of “yellow journalism.”

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Alia reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, emphasizing that he has no intention of defecting from the party under which he was elected. The spokesman also highlighted the governor’s strong working relationship with Benue APC chairman Benjamin Omale, stressing, “There is no doubt about the governor’s loyalty to the APC.”

Meanwhile, in a notable political development in Kogi State, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has gained significant ground in Ogbabede Ward, Dekina council area. Over 300 members from both the APC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) officially joined the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in a defection led by Husseini Umar Eniji, a prominent advocate of the Kwankwasiyya ideology.

Eniji, formerly a key financial supporter and council chairmanship candidate for the SDP, has become a central figure driving the NNPP’s expansion in the region. This defection signals growing momentum for the NNPP in Kogi State, challenging the dominance of the APC and SDP as the 2027 general elections approach.

The shift marks a strategic political realignment in Dekina and is expected to influence broader electoral dynamics across Kogi in the coming months.
