JAMB Warns Against Fake Resit Exam Messages Circulating Via Spoofed Short Code

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent messages being circulated through a spoofed version of its official 66019 short code.

In a statement released on Wednesday, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, discredited the messages, describing them as fake and intended to create confusion among candidates. He clarified that the misleading texts are not from the examination body.

According to Dr. Benjamin, the messages falsely instruct candidates — including some who have already taken the resit examination and received their results — to reprint their exam slips for another round of exams. He stressed that there are no scheduled examinations at this time.

“The only examination that JAMB is planning to conduct, which has yet to be scheduled, is the foreign examination held in nine countries across Europe, the Middle East, and certain African nations,” he said.

He further explained that a mop-up examination will also be conducted for candidates who missed both the main and resit exams and have been granted waivers. This is a standard provision for candidates who experienced biometric verification failures.

JAMB urged candidates and the general public to ignore any unofficial messages and rely only on verified information. Dr. Benjamin assured that all eligible candidates for the upcoming mop-up exercise will be formally notified once arrangements are complete.
