NSIEC Flags Off Campaign Season for 2025 Niger Council Elections

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has officially declared the commencement of campaign activities ahead of the 2025 local government elections.

Chairman of the Commission, Engineer Mohammed Jibrin Imam, made this known during a media chat at the NSIEC headquarters in Minna. He revealed that no fewer than 10 political parties have expressed interest in participating in the forthcoming polls.

The parties include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Labour Party, Booth Party, National Rescue Movement (NRM), Action Alliance, Accord Party, and Action People’s Party.

Imam urged all parties and their candidates to strictly follow the commission’s campaign guidelines, emphasizing that the tone and conduct of their campaigns will play a key role in ensuring peaceful and credible elections.

He stressed the commission’s commitment to upholding the election timetable, stating that while campaigns are underway, NSIEC will proceed with other scheduled activities, including the publication of the notice of polls.

The NSIEC chairman also disclosed that the official date for the council elections—November 1, 2025—will be formally announced by September 1.
