Popular social media critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has threatened to cut ties with Nigerian music star Davido and nightlife figure Cubana Chiefpriest if they publicly campaign for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The outspoken critic made the declaration in a video posted to his Instagram page, reacting to the duo’s recent visit to the presidency. While VDM acknowledged everyone’s right to political choice, he stressed that he would not tolerate celebrities influencing public opinion in favour of politicians he considers responsible for the country’s woes.
“I don’t have a problem with who anyone chooses to support politically,” VDM said. “The only way I will have a problem with Davido, Chiefpriest, or any influencer is if they start publicly campaigning for APC or any political party come 2027. I will stand against you.”
He further accused celebrities of misleading the masses by endorsing politicians in exchange for money and influence.
“Let the people decide. Don’t deceive them to vote for the wrong politicians because of the love they have for you… Any politician that wants support should speak for himself. Let him campaign for himself.”
VDM also made it clear that while he respects individual choices, celebrities should refrain from swaying voters who are already struggling with economic hardship.
VeryDarkMan and Davido have maintained a friendly relationship, with VDM among the few influencers invited to Davido’s lavish wedding to Chioma in June 2024. His latest comments signal a potential rift if political endorsements become a factor in the lead-up to 2027.
