The leadership of the Delta Ijaw All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, will soon join their party. This confirmation came during a meeting of the Delta State Ijaw APC leadership held in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.
High Chief Michael Johnny, leading the meeting, stated, “Sheriff is coming to APC. Forget what you hear in social media. Sheriff Oborevwori is coming to APC. There are landlords and landladies. As Ijaw people, we are not against anybody coming to APC.” Johnny emphasized the openness of the party, adding that any Ijaw person interested in joining is welcome. “The day you are ready to come, we are ready to receive you,” he said.
Johnny highlighted significant defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta South Ijaw region to the APC, reinforcing the party’s growing influence in the area. He further assured that there were no leadership issues among the Delta Ijaw APC leaders.
The APC leaders, including prominent figures such as Raymos Guana, Chief Mike Seikegba, and Hon. Ebitonmo A. Alapala, pledged their loyalty to key APC figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Sen. Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, representing Delta South. “We are loyal to the APC State and National Working Committees, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Sen. Godswill Akpabio,” Johnny affirmed.
The group also expressed their support for President Tinubu’s administration, citing his appointments from the Delta South region as evidence of his commitment to the area’s development. Johnny specifically appreciated the President’s recognition of the region, noting that more appointments were expected.
In a show of solidarity, the leaders passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu, Senate President Akpabio, and Sen. Onowakpo-Thomas, endorsing them for a second term in office. They also affirmed their ongoing contributions to the development of the Niger Delta, particularly Delta South.
