Apparently optimistic about his reinstatement, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his commitment to peace and development. He called on Rivers residents and Nigerians at large to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for his swift intervention in averting a deepening political crisis in the state.
In a statement titled “Our Journey: Challenging but Progressive and Impactful”, which he personally signed, Fubara acknowledged the hurdles of his administration but insisted progress had been made. He marked his second year since inauguration with a renewed promise to uphold the oath he took by prioritising the interests of Rivers people.
“Today marks exactly two years since I took the oath of office as your seventh democratically elected governor. On May 29, 2023, I was sworn in following the clear and overwhelming mandate you gave me during the March 18, 2023 elections,” he stated. “Once again, I thank you for the trust, honour, and privilege to lead our beloved state.”
He revealed that executive and legislative offices were being restructured to restore democratic stability and ensure both arms of government work in unison for the state’s progress.
Fubara further urged his supporters and all Rivers residents to embrace the ongoing peace process. He expressed gratitude to Tinubu for stepping in at a critical time.
“We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank the President for his timely intervention to salvage the situation and stabilise the polity and the state. If not for the President, the story today would have been different,” he said.
