The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Chief Basil Ejidike, has described the upcoming November 8 governorship election as a “God-given chance” to align Anambra State with the party at the center. Ejidike emphasized the importance of this election for the state’s future and its socio-economic development.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, Ejidike urged Anambra residents to rally behind APC to “liberate” the state from the opposition, which he claimed had stifled development for too long. He stated that the state’s current leadership under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had failed to deliver on promises and opportunities, making it imperative for Anambra to reconnect with the federal government.
Ejidike pointed to the success of other APC-controlled states like Ebonyi and Imo, contrasting them with Anambra’s stagnation under APGA rule. He called for Anambra to join the “progressive fold” in order to experience the benefits of democratic governance, particularly improved infrastructure and socio-economic growth.
“The earlier we connect to the centre, the better for us. We are not getting anything compared to other APC-controlled states,” Ejidike said, highlighting the importance of the upcoming election for the state’s future.
He also reflected on the recent political shifts in the state, noting that APC had made significant inroads at the grassroots level, with a growing number of politicians joining the party. Ejidike pointed out that unlike the previous APGA-led administration, the current leadership under Governor Chukwuma Soludo lacked strong ties with party members and had failed to deliver substantial achievements after nearly 20 years in power.
In comparing the party’s primary elections, Ejidike observed that other major parties like APGA, LP, and PDP had single candidates, while APC saw seven aspirants vying for its ticket, showing the party’s growing influence and appeal.
He concluded by urging APC members to remain focused on securing victory in the November 8 election, stressing that this was a crucial opportunity to bring development, infrastructure, and employment opportunities to the people of Anambra.
